At Our Lady of Good Counsel, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of compassionate, confident and capable leaders. Our Year Six Leadership Program is a cornerstone of this commitment, offering students a wide range of opportunities to grow in responsibility, service, and school spirit.
Leadership Foundations: Year 5 Leadership Camp
The leadership journey begins in Year Five with our Leadership Camp—a formative experience designed to build teamwork, resilience, and communication skills. Through outdoor challenges, reflective activities, and collaborative tasks, students begin to understand what it means to lead with integrity and empathy. This camp sets the stage for their leadership roles in Year Six.
Formal Leadership Roles
In Year Six, students are invited to apply for formal leadership positions that allow them to represent their peers and contribute meaningfully to school life:
- School Captains: Our School Captains are the voice of the student body. They lead assemblies, represent the school at official events and model the values of OLGC in all they do.
- Vice Captains: Supporting the School Captains, our Vice Captains help coordinate student initiatives and step into leadership roles when needed, ensuring a strong and united leadership team.
- House Captains: Each of our sporting houses is led by House Captains who inspire team spirit, encourage participation, and help organise school sporting events and carnivals.
These roles are filled through a thoughtful selection process that includes written applications, speeches and peer and staff voting—ensuring that leadership is both earned and respected.
Student Ministries: Leading Through Service
In addition to formal roles, all Year Six students participate in one of our three Student Ministries, each focused on a different aspect of leadership and service:
- Hearts of Love – Promoting kindness, inclusion, and wellbeing across the school. These students lead initiatives that support mental health, friendship, and peer support.
- Hands of Service – Taking action to help others through service projects, fundraising, and community outreach. These leaders embody the spirit of giving.
- Bringers of Joy – Spreading positivity and school spirit through events, celebrations, and creative initiatives that make OLGC a joyful place to learn and grow.
Through these ministries, students learn that leadership is not just about having a title—it’s about making a difference in the lives of others.
