May 23, 2013: Annual Catholic Campaign
This week you should receive a letter from Archbishop Mark Coleridge asking you to participate in the 2013 Annual Catholic Campaign. The Campaign is so important for the work of the church, and the school community so you are asked to please consider giving generously. The ministries supported by the Campaign provide services that could not be delivered by one parish or school alone. They are ministries that need the support of all schools and parishes in the archdiocese. By sharing a financial gift, you will make a difference to the lives of thousands of people in South East Queensland who are supported through programs that teach, heal, support, nurture and feed. Please give what you can. Visit www.catholiccampaign.com.au to make a gift. (Envelopes available at the office)
May 23, 2013: Sporting Achievements
Congratulations to Meleia S (Yr 3) and Daniel S (Yr 4) on their participation and success in the Weet Bix Triathalon last weekend in Brisbane. Well done!
Another exciting event was the Rugby League team who played against St. Joseph’s Stanthorpe at Warwick on Monday afternoon. It was a thrilling game with the boys playing their hardest and eventually overcoming the Stanthorpe team 22-16. The team is now included in the Super 6 Competition in Toowoomba next Thursday. I must congratulate Mr White who has been training the team and who organised the new jerseys which looked very smart on the boys.
May 16, 2013: Mother's Day Celebrations
At school we were able to acknowledge the marvellous roles these significant women play in our lives by having a special morning tea and stall. I would like to thank Mrs Rosa Sims and her tuckshop team for sharing the tuckshop facility with us last Friday. We were able to make these mothers feel special by including them in our gathering. Thanks also, to Mrs Tanya Toohey and her helpers, who organised the very successful Mother’s Day stall.

May 2, 2013: Year 3 - Looking after Leaf Litter
This week the two year three classes donned protective glasses and rubber glasses and took up magnifying glasses and plastic tubs in search of creatures inhabiting the leaf litter and top soil of our school environment.
The activity was part of the year three’s science unit “Feathers, fur or leaves”. Students recorded their findings and graphed their results. No wildlife was harmed in the process of the study with all collected specimens being returned to their natural habitat at the end of the day.
The children had a great time and learned lots, thanks to the availability of the fabulous new resources contained within one of the science kits recently acquired through the support of the OLGC Parents’ and Friends’ Association.

March 21, 2013: Year 2 Excursion to UQ Gatton
Last Thursday Year 2 went on an excursion to the
University of Queensland. This excursion connected
with our History unit as we have been learning about
local historical sites. The university has been in
Gatton for over 100 years and has a number of
interesting sites. The children learnt about some of the
structures at the university, and discovered how they
are significant. The staff at the university also shared
some funny stories of the pranks past (and current)
students have played, involving some of the sites!

February 21, 2013: Twelve in a row! Lockyer Zone Swimming Carnival
Well done to the OLGC Swim Team on their outstanding team performance at the Lockyer Zone Swimming Carnival last Friday. This year’s team took out the Overall Point Trophy and the Aggregate points Trophy for the 12th Year in a row. It was an outstanding effort and a credit to the children. The long hours they and their parents put into swimming lessons and training is a huge commitment and very worthwhile. It was awesome to see the number of children willing to have a go at as many events as possible. A special mention goes to Caitlin Nolan who broke and set two new pool records in the girls 12 years 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle.
February 21, 2013: New School Resources
I am pleased to advise that a variety of new resources have been purchased to enhance the teaching and learning of students at OLGC. During the holidays, over $6000 was spent updating our Maths resources. Last week, we ordered 24 new lap tops as part of a grant we received from BCE.
In addition to this, the P&F last week contributed funds for the purchase of 20 ipads, docking station and trolley, Science Curriculum support materials, portable speaker system and a new mower which arrived yesterday.
To commence a school year with such an injection of resources is wonderful and I thank all involved in making this happen.
Our next venture is the 2013 SPRING FAIR which, over many years, has been an opportunity to gather as a community and also to raise funds for further resources at OLGC.
February 14, 2013: Opening School & Year 7 Induction Mass

Already our leaders are keen to get their respective projects up and running and, no doubt, they will be inspired when they attend the Halogen Leadership Day at the Convention Centre soon. I congratulate the Year 7 students for their very well prepared speeches that were presented on Monday morning. Congratulations to all our Year 7 Leaders:
