May 10, 2012: Official Opening & Blessing
It was tremendous to see so many parents and carers present at the opening of the Father John Conway Multipurpose Centre last Friday 4 May. I think you would agree it was a great celebration. I must thank all the staff for their support and assistance in preparing for the day. They are truly a wonderful asset. I also wish to thank Jane Martin the P&F President for the time and effort she put into preparing the plaque and student samples for the burying of the time capsule and the commemorative wine and tea towels for the opening.

April 26, 2012: 2013 Prep Enrolments
Interviews for Prep in 2013 will occur on Thursday 31st May and Friday 1st June. If you have a child who is eligible to attend Prep next year and have not yet completed an application for enrolment, please do so as soon as possible. If you know of friends and acquainttances who may be considering sending their child to Our Lady of Good Counsel for next year, please let them know that enrolments are closing soon.

April 19, 2012: ANZAC Day March - April 25, 2012
Each year our school is involved in the Gatton ANZAC Day March to honour those who sacrificed their lives for us. Once again it will be great to see a large number of students there ready to march with us to show our respect. The march will be held on ANZAC Day, 25th April. The procession will start to form at 10am in North Street, Gatton, adjacent to the council office, for a 10:30am start. The march will lead to the BOER War Memorial then to Littleton Park for the service.
All students intending to participate in the march and service must be dressed in the formal school uniform.
March 29, 2012: OLGC Drama
We have had a very busy and productive term and the students have been introduced to several areas of the curriculum. I can really see progress in their imagination and in their confidence.
In the early lessons, the children were involved in simple action activities Eg. Creating a Zoo. Some were animals, others were zoo keepers and some were tourists. Acting out each role in different ways.

March 22, 2012: Past Pupils Morning Tea
What a wonderful event! The morning tea gained momentum with many past pupils sharing their stories, many hilarious, with those gathered including current staff, parents and students. We were entertained by certain characters who also shared some of their antics with the current assembly of children. How times have changed! Thank you to Mrs Angela Mobbs (Chaplain) and Mrs Jane Martin (P&F President) who organised the event.

March 15, 2012: National Year of Reading
2012 will see a whole heap of amazing, fun, reading activities taking place around Australia and online, so that people of all ages and backgrounds can discover (or rediscover) the joy of reading.
Our Lady of Good Counsel continues to promote students “love 2 read”:
- Student library borrower of the month prize
- Readers Cup Challenge (Lockyer Region)
- The Reading Hour Challenge – 25th August

- Silent, Guided & Modeled reading in classrooms
- Weekly library lessons
- Author for a day– Term 2 – (D.C Green)
- Premiers Reading Challenge

March 1, 2012: Prep and Year 6 Buddies
Excitement has been in the air as the Preps and their Year 6 Buddies gathered together to share some fun at OLGC!
Congratulations to the Year 6 Students who have signed up for this very important aspect of life at school.
February 23, 2012: Zone Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all students who participated in the swimming carnival last Friday. Not only did each participant display excellent sportsmanship but outstanding ability and determination in the pool. The following students have now qualified for the Regional Carnival to be held next Wednesday 29 February at the Gatton Pool. February 23, 2012: Lego for OLGC Library
If anyone has any unused LEGO lying around, we could certainly find a new, loving home for it in the OLGC school library. The children would be very appreciative. Please kindly leave at the school office.

February 2, 2012: Information Evening and Welcome BBQ
This year we will be able to have the Information Evening and Welcome Barbecue in the undercover area. This evening is an opportunity to gain information about OLGC, meet the staff and, of course, learn all about the year ahead for your child from their class teacher. This year, the P&F is organising a Welcome Barbecue in conjunction with the information sessions.
We look forward to seeing you at the Information Evening and BBQ Wednesday, February 8 at 6:00pm.
February 2, 2012: Adopt a Cop
We are very happy to announce that again this year, our Adopt a Cop is Constable Peter Greiger. I have already met with Constable Greiger to discuss information sessions for the children particularly in relation to Safe Behaviour, Cyber Safety, Stranger Danger and Road Safety. Please say hello to Constable Greiger should you see him around the school.
January 24, 2012: Daniel Walsh Centre transformed
The Daniel Walsh Centre is a key landmark at OLGC and has served many well over the years. It was magestically renovated in 1981 and today the work done so freely by the 1981 volunteers is evident. Over the holidays, following approval from the Parish, it was transformed carefully back to classrooms – 2 year 4 classrooms in fact. This beautiful building must be treasured but I know the teachers and students will love the original architecture and the new carpet, air conditioning and tasteful partition which together with the new ‘state of the art’ interactive boards and other resources, will provide the perfect location for learning and creativity. Thank you to those who put in many hours ensuring this work was completed for the recommencement of school today.
January 16, 2012: Welcome to the 2012 School Year
The OLGC school community would like to welcome new and existing families to the 2012 school year. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
