2021 Book Week - Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds

Each year, across Australia, the CBCA brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. During this time Schools, Libraries, Booksellers, Authors, Illustrators and children celebrate Australian Children’s Literature.

This year, Book Week is being celebrated 23-27 August with the theme Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.

We have a number of fun activities planned and encourage the participation of all students.

  • Prep – Year 6  -  Construct/Create something from an Old World, a New World or an Other World. The construction can be up to 40cm tall, 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep. It must be able to stand without support so it can be displayed.
  • Years 4, 5 & 6 – create a colourful poster on the theme. Maximum size A3, any media.
There are prizes for every year level.

All entries should be brought to the library by Friday, 20 August. They must be clearly labelled with the student’s name and class.

There is a colouring competition with prizes for every year level. Students complete the colouring page at home and return it to the library by Friday, 20 August. Please check that the student’s name and class are written on their entry.

The Book Character Parade will take place on Wednesday, 25 August in the assembly area. Unfortunately due to current restrictions parents will be unable to attend the Book Character Parade. A recording of the parade will be uploaded to the Parent Portal so families can enjoy viewing at home together.

To prepare for the parade:
  • Each student reads a story book (not a non-fiction book) or has a book read to them.
  • They choose a character from the book to dress up as.
  • Students should make their costumes at home and are encouraged to enjoy the process of creating something fun from a book that they enjoy.
  • They bring the book with them to carry during the parade or a copy of the front cover.
Prizes for the BEST DRESSED in each year level!
