Year 6 Tangalooma Eco Camp

Last week our Year 6 students enjoyed a very special camp to Tangalooma Island. Unfortunately due to the pandemic the annual Canberra Experience was unable to proceed however to give the Year 6 students an opportunity to attend a camp, the decision was made to change venues to Tangalooma. The focus on ecology was also driven by 10 Year Anniversary since the 2011 floods.
We were able to talk about the water system and where the water ultimately ends up and the impact it has on marine wildlife.

The students had an amazing time and immersed themselves in the activities offered along with the highly educational talks presented by the Eco Rangers on the Island. Students learnt about the structure of the island, wildlife on the island as well as in the water surrounding the island and had many opportunities to view and even feed marine animals. Students were a buzz with discussion around the activities they had done each day whilst also engaging in discussion and anticipated excitement about upcoming activities. The students I’m sure were feeling a little tired after a very busy four days, commencing with a 5:30am departure on Monday and an
8:00pm arrival home last Thursday evening.

Congratulations Year 6 for your high level of engagement. Your behaviour was outstanding and as we know many staff and members of the public commended you for your outstanding behaviour and courtesy. It was a pleasure taking you on camp and sharing this experience with you. Well done!
