2021 NAPLAN Online

This week will see the commencement of NAPLAN testing for 2021. This year for the very first time, students in Year 3 & 5 at OLGC will participate in NAPLAN online. Last year we prepared and were ready to go for NAPLAN online before Covid intervened and schools were sent into alternative education. NAPLAN – National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy always brings a lot of attention in the media with many asking the purpose of this style of testing and should students even be made to participate. The value of NAPLAN for each individual may vary depending on how it is explained. For educators we see assessment as feedback about our
impact on student learning. If we view NAPLAN as a standardised assessment that will provide our school with feedback about how students have progressed in the assessed strands of the curriculum, then we will have a set of data that will inform our next steps for teaching.

In preparing students for NAPLAN, it is most important that they remain calm, approach the tests with a growth mindset and simply give it their best effort. NAPLAN should not be stressful for students, families or schools. NAPLAN assessment is a point in time assessment that provides a data set for schools. This data allows us to reflect on practice, celebrate successes and look for future opportunities to grow learning and learners at OLGC. As a staff we look forward to supporting our Year 3 & 5 students as they participate in this year’s NAPLAN. Good luck students!
