Cahill Henry Cup – Rugby League

On Tuesday, the OLGC rugby league team played St Mary’s in the first match of the Cahill Henry Cup Series. After being postponed from earlier in the term, the students were very excited to hear that Game 1 was going ahead albeit during school time and without the usual crowd of spectators. This certainly did not dampen their enthusiasm as they could not wait for the game to begin after weeks of training.

Again, this year’s game was played in great spirit and demonstrated the wonderful skills of our talented footballers across the two schools. The first half of the game was very close with the two teams going try for try in the early part with a 12-12 score mid-way through the half. As the game went on, OLGC certainly found their rhythm and began to dominate with wonderful teamwork in attack and defence. At half time the score was 24-12 with the boys’ keen to keep up the wonderful enthusiasm in attack and defence for the second half. Four more talented tries were scored in the second half with OLGC winning Game 1: 44-12. We look forward to hosting
the return game early in Term 4 at Cahill Park. Well done team OLGC.

Speed Soccer and Netball Carnival

Yesterday, our Year 6 students assisted by some of our Year 5 students participated in the annual Speed Soccer and Netball Carnival. On a very warm day the students played five games against many of our local schools including Gatton SS, Peace, Lake Clarendon and Helidon. All teams thoroughly enjoyed the day and played with wonderful sportsmanship and spirit. Our Senior A & Senior B netball teams were highly competitive winning all but one game throughout the day with the Senior B team winning the trophy for the B Division. Our soccer teams played hard all day again with wonderful effort, spirit and sportsmanship. Both teams won two out of
their five games. The students are to be congratulated for their efforts and commended on their sportsmanship and the way they represented OLGC. Congratulations and well-done students and staff.
