2020 Cahill Henry Cup

Trophy.jpg

Last week the school rugby league team played St Mary’s Laidley in the second game of the series at Cahill Park. The boys started off a little nervous, but their confidence again grew throughout the game. After a very tight tussle for the start of the game OLGC scored three late tries in the first half to lead 12-0 at half time. In the second half the great teamwork continued with lots of creativity in attack. Both teams scored tries in the second half after the players began to tire after excellent defence. At the final whistle OLGC won the game 34-10 taking out the series and retaining the Cahill-Henry Cup for another year.

Well done to all players for the outstanding sportsmanship shown between the teams. I thank our assistant coach -Kathy for her support and sharing her knowledge and tips for skill development with the boys. Next year’s series will again be very exciting as it is believed the very first game between the two schools occurred in 1921. It will therefore be the centenary year since the first game was played between Gatton Convent School and Laidley Convent School, as they were named at the time.
