2020 Blessing of Mercy Cross

Mercy Cross.jpg

Earlier this year, we had a Mercy Cross made and placed in a prominent location in our school grounds. This cross adds to our student’s knowledge and understanding of Catherine McAuley and the Mercy sisters and serves as a reminder to our students and staff of our history and charism as a school. Its location allows for classes to use it as a sacred space for liturgies,
prayers and reflections.

We had hoped to have the official blessing of this cross during our Feast Day celebrations back in April. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions at the time, we were not able to have these celebrations. As an alternative, we have scheduled a liturgy for Friday next week. We have chosen this date as it is very close to the 24th of September when Mercy Day is celebrated which falls during the holidays. At this liturgy, the Parish priest, Father Noyichan, will bless the Mercy Cross. We are also lucky enough to have Sister Bev Smith from the Sisters of Mercy and Mr Paul Leeson, our Senior Leader from Brisbane Catholic Education join in our celebrations.

Please note that as with all current celebrations and events, the liturgy will be students, staff and invited guests only, parents will not be able to attend. All those attending the liturgy will adhere to social distancing and other COVID safe measures. A video of the liturgy will be uploaded onto the TEAMS site for each class.
