2019 Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas.jpgDear Our Lady of Good Counsel Learning Community

Last week was again another very busy week as we celebrated the end of the 2019 school year whilst also having the opportunity to prepare for the 2020 year ahead.

The week commenced with two days of new staff inductions, allowing an opportunity to commence student transitions for 2020. I thoroughly enjoyed working with many of our new staff over the two days and am looking forward to them sharing their gifts and talents with us next year. Some staff were unable to make the induction days this year and I thank them for their welcome letters and look forward to working with them early in the new year. We wish them all the very best as they make their move to the beautiful Lockyer Valley over the coming break.

On Wednesday & Thursday I enjoyed spending time with the students at their End of Year Excursions. On Wednesday I joined our Year 6 students for a day of fun at Wet n Wild. It was a pleasure providing them this opportunity in return for their contributions to leadership and ministry throughout 2019. It was certainly no

surprise to see outstanding behaviour throughout the entire day. Well done Year 6!  Congratulations and THANK YOU for an outstanding year. Good luck and all the very best for your high school learning journey.

I also enjoyed a day at the movies to see The Queen's Corgi with the Prep to Year 5 children and again I must say it was a pleasure taking the students to the movies in Toowoomba. The student behaviour was excellent last Thursday with cinema staff congratulating the school for the wonderful behaviour the students displayed. Most

students also showed excellent manners as they received their popcorn and drink.  Well done students and congratulations on all you have achieved throughout 2019.

On Thursday reports were uploaded to the Parent Portal and are now available and accessible for parents. Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the pleasure of reading reports and it is always very rewarding to read and celebrate the great progress made by students. Parents, you should be very proud of what your children have achieved this year and I hope you also enjoy reading the reports with your children and celebrating their progress. Parents are encouraged to download and save reports for future reference. Please be aware that reports are only available online for a couple of years. Please contact the school office if you require assistance accessing the End of Year Reports or the Parent Portal.

On the last day of school we celebrated the end of year with Mass and the annual OLGC Awards Ceremony. I thank Fr Noy and Minje for celebrating Mass with the OLGC Learning Community. This year’s school theme was ‘Be the Light’ and I thank students, staff and parents for letting your light shine throughout 2019. I thank you

for the support and encouragement you provide your children, and may this light continue to shine brightly in 2020. I also congratulate all the award recipients for your outstanding efforts and achievements. Many of the teachers commented on how hard it was to just choose one recipient as there were often many students who made excellent progress and achieved excellent results across the curriculum.

Parents, I would like to finish by thanking you for your dedication and commitment to your child’s education. Success starts at home thanks to the wonderful support you provide your child. This support is evident through the time you give in preparing lunches, uniforms, helping with homework and simply being there for your child. As we enter the Christmas holidays, I hope you too find time to enjoy a well-earned break from the school routine and have time to rest and relax in reward for your outstanding support.

I wish you all a very Merry & Holy Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God bless.
