This year as part of the school’s improvement plan we continue to focus our efforts on supporting students individually in reading and writing development. In the early years we support students in developing their knowledge of concepts about print along with sound letter knowledge. This knowledge is the foundation to reading and writing and with this knowledge in place students are then able to use this knowledge as they progress to learning sight words, skills to decode words and then be able to use them in their writing.
Educational research shows there is increased development when students learn sight words in context. This includes students being able to place and use sight words in sentences.
As a staff we look forward to continuing to support students in these areas to become confident readers and writers.
