The Queen’s Baton Relay will come through Gatton on Thursday 29th March. As this is a very unique event and most likely a once in a lifetime opportunity, we are planning on walking students down Spencer St to the main intersection in town to view the Commonwealth Games Baton as it comes into town. We have been informed by organisers that this will be the closest point for the school and will be a good position for viewing as it is also a changeover point. The baton will pass this point soon after 12:00pm before arriving at the Gatton Show Grounds at approximately 12:30pm where a formal ceremony and lap around the show grounds will occur.
We are presently discussing the logistics of walking the Year 4-6 classes through to the Show Grounds once the baton has passed Spencer St so that OLGC can join with other local schools to represent OLGC in the main parade around the arena. Once final details of the day have been finalised we will send home a permission request for parents to complete. As the day is quite unique, we would also support families if they wished to collect students early to take them to the larger community event occurring at the Show Grounds.
